Matthew's First Haircut

I finally did it. I cut Matthew's hair. He was born with tons of blond hair. The newborn hair had grown to be a long wisp that could have passed for a pony tail if he were a girl. I had Brett hold him while I did the trimming. It was a very quick cut due to the fact that Matthew just had to see what I was doing. I had to just grab a bit and cut when I could. His hair is so fluffy that every snip I took sent a little "poof" of blond feathers fluttering to the floor. It was really quite cute.

Here is part of the wisp.

All done. What a handsome boy!

When do you just go home?

When do you just go home? You just go home when you are covered in poop!

For the past couple of days Matthew has been blowing his pants off! Every time he eats you can expect poop up to his armpits. Other than the very runny poop he seems fine. He isn't running a fever or being extra grumpy or showing any other sickie signs. This is very unusual for Matthew who never did go through the runny newborn poop stage. Last night we went to a very nice wedding reception in Fountain Valley (an hour away) for Brett's cousin's daughter. Shortly after we arrived I was standing in the food line and my arm suddenly felt warm. I looked and Matthew had a mess oozing all over the blanket I had him wrapped in. I hurried off to the car to get him cleaned up. Luckily I had thrown his jammies in the diaper bag so he was able to be cleaned and snuggled up.

Today both Brett and I had to be at church because the ward choir was singing. I am the choir director and Brett sings in the bass section. Brett also had to teach gospel doctrine. Matthew seemed "fine" this morning so we took him to church. Unfortunately we hurried ourselves out the door and because he seemed "fine" I didn't think to grab ANY extra supplies for him. We were sitting peacefully in our seats during the passing of the sacrament and I was holding Matthew. Hannah leaned over and put her head on my lap and sat back up and said, "Matthew smells like poop." I sat him up to see that right before my very eyes, like a magic trick, Matthew's back was turning yellowish green. I grabbed the diaper bag and the car keys and hurried out the door. By the time I got to the bathroom the spot that was originally just emerging from the top of this pants waistband was halfway up his back! I rolled off a LARGE mound of paper towels and went to work. I peeled his clothes off him and opened the wipes container to discover that I had only 2 wipes left! I didn't remember to refill it from the previous night's disaster. It's amazing how much you can do with only 2 wipes. I bundled up his goopy clothes and went out to the car to see if I had ANY clothes or blanket or one of the kid's jackets to wrap him in. Thankfully I had left the t-shirt in the van from the night before and it didn't have any poop on it. I put that back on him and went back to sacrament meeting with him in just a t-shirt and a diaper. I sat down just in time for the choir to get up and sing. WHEW!

How naive I was...

We made our way through the rest of sacrament meeting just fine. I decided to go ahead and go to gospel doctrine because I wanted to hear Brett's lesson and Matthew seemed "fine". I was again holding Matthew on my lap when about fifteen minutes into the lesson I suddenly felt that warm, wet feeling that is unmistakable! I looked down to see a yellow puddle quickly forming in my lap. I grabbed up the bottom of my skirt with Matthew inside and hunched myself VERY RAPIDLY out of the class. Mercifully, my friend, Bobejo (Bobby Jo for those of you who feel the urge to read it bo-bay-ho) was in the hall chatting. I grabbed her arm from my hunched over position and said, "Come help me!" She followed me to the bathroom and held Matthew by his underarms while I tried to control the damage. I had poop all down the front of my skirt. I also had poop on my white shirt from the earlier explosion. We rolled off another mountain of paper towels. Wet paper towels did a fantastic job of cleaning the bright yellow baby. Bobejo went back and got my bags (I left the room without even a diaper!) and the carseat. I got Matthew reassembled and ...

I JUST WENT HOME!!!

I was POOPED!

Matthew

I went to lunch yesterday with some friends. My friend Lori snapped this shot of Matthew and sent it to me. Thanks Lori! He's a cute little guy if I do say so myself.

For My Little Nieces and Nephews

This gave me a little chuckle and I thought I would pass it along. You'll have to pause my blog music above so it doesn't conflict.

A Day in Travel Town

Brian and Geneve were here in California this weekend. We met up with them,Colin and Calvin, and Linda on Saturday in LA at Griffith Park. There are lots of different things to do there including the LA Zoo, the Griffith Park Observatory, and Travel Town. Travel Town is a train museum. They have several huge train engines that you can climb in. The weather was perfect for our outing.

We stopped at Phillipe's for dinner. That made our trip to LA complete. YUMMMM!

Here is my family. I love my husband and children so much.

We took a train ride on a miniature train. Linda opted not to go on the ride. She snapped a few photos of us before we took off.

Brett and Matthew are ready to go!

If you look closely you can see just about everyone in this shot. I think I only missed Hannah.

Connor is waiting for the train to come back to the depot so we can get on.

I love this shot of Matthew with Ethan. Matthew gets more kisses than any baby I know. He usually grabs your face as you come in for a kiss, as he is demonstrating here.

Enjoy this rare shot of me. I am usually the one behind the camera. Oh, and Matthew, again.

I took a bit of effort but we were finally able to get a shot of the four older kids looking out the window of one of the train engines. They were really high off the ground and Hannah was afraid to go too close to the window.

Connor, Ethan, Hannah, and Calvin had fun climbing into the cab together. The picture doesn't show that they are about five feet off the ground. Those engines were HUGE!!

Click on the picture to get a closer shot of Connor. I liked watching him walk along the tracks in his own world.

Ethan wanted to show how far he could walk on the rails before he split himself in two.

Calvin needed a little break.

Whoa Ethan! Hang in there!

Brooks with Daddy Brian. Brett captured this one. So sweet.

Matthew really his a very happy guy. Enjoy the following shots of his ear to ear grin.

We really did have a fantastic day!!
