I am flying solo for a few days this week because Brett is in Columbus, Ohio for work. Last night I got the kids all in bed and then goofed off on the computer for a little while before going to bed myself. When I got upstairs I heard Matthew coughing and coughing and fussing. He had been up most of the night before with a cough and I know he has an upper molar coming in. I thought, "Oh great, another long night." I headed downstairs to get some ibuprofen to give him with the hope that he would sleep through the night. After I came upstairs I flipped on the TV so I could watch Glen Beck after I finally got in bed. The show had already started so I stood there watching it for a few minutes before going to get Matthew and administer the medicine. I had planned to get him when the show went to a commercial. I stood there and stood there waiting for the commercial but because the show had just started it was quite a while before it got to that point. (Yes, I know, you're thinking, "Just get yer dang kid!" But hear me out, you'll be glad I didn't--unless you wish I were dead.) When it finally came to the commercial I heard that Matthew was no longer coughing at all and he was totally asleep. I crept in and checked on him to make sure he was good and asleep. I went back to my room and crossed the room to go get changed and finally get in bed. As I passed the bed something caught my eye on the wall. (The room was mostly dark with light coming from the TV and the bathroom.) As I came closer to inspect I realized it was a big, black widow creeping slowly down the wall toward my bed!!!! It was about three feet up the wall between Brett's and my pillow. I ran into the closet and got Brett big tennis shoe. I knew I had to get it in one whack because otherwise it would either fall behind the bed or land on the bed and scurry into the covers. I lined the shoe up directly over the spider and WHACKED it as hard as I could. Thankfully, I got it and I didn't hear or feel the disgusting crunch of that big, fat body. Sadly, I did get a boo boo on my pinkie finger (for those of you who are concerned.) I hit the wall so hard that I crunched my finger into the wall.
I am thankful my guardian angel tickled Matthew's throat last night just long enough for me to stay out of the bed and let that spider come into view.

Our Trip to the Mormon Battalion Visitor's Center
We recently took the family to San Diego to the newly remodeled Mormon Battalion Historical Site. It was a fun experience to take the tour and learn more about why the battalion was formed and the trials they encountered. Field trips are always fun!

Ethan was selected to be put on some of the gear the men were issued as a part of the battalion. I think he liked the big gun the best.
