A Healthy Heart

I just got back from the cardiologist with Matthew. They did a heart echo test on him today to follow up his visit last year. At the last visit they found that the hole at the bottom of his heart that he had at birth had closed but that the hole at the top of his heart was still open. Today the test showed that the hole is now closed. We don't have to have any follow-up visits with the cardiologist. Matthew's heart is whole!!

Candy Day 2009

December 12 was my annual Christmas candy making day with my dear friend, Janette Jones. We have been doing this for about 7 years now. We get together for an entire day and make as much candy as we can. We both agreed that this year's candy menu was the best so far. We always have a wonderful time together. I look forward to this day each year and I cherish the memories that we make. Thank you Janette!

This is the entire loot for the day.

Nut Brittle--We didn't do regular peanut brittle this time. We added almonds, cashews, peanuts and wide ribbon coconut to it. This was my favorite candy this year. I will definitely do it again.

Dipped rice krispie treats. Some of them we dipped fully. The rest we dipped the bottom and drizzled the top.

Oreos dipped in mint chocolate and topped with crushed candy cane.

Caramel Pecan Turtles

Chocolate-dipped Peanut Butter Balls

Cinnamon Hard Candy--This was fun and very easy to make.

Chocolate truffles rolled in various toppings (cocoa powder, chocolate sprinkles, chopped nuts, toasted coconut.)

Candy day is never complete without English Toffee.

Homemade Caramels--We did toasted coconut and pecans on the bottom of the caramels.
